WOMEN'S CENTRE 20TH ANNIVERSARY GALA

Congratulations to the University Women's Centre on a successful gala to celebrate their 20th anniversary (16/03/2024). They've worked tirelessly to promote a safe, inclusive space for UNB and STU students, and we are so grateful for what they offer to our community. A few of our exec members were able to attend the gala and were inspired by the amazing speeches and the information about the incredible women of UNB and STU. Here's to another 20 years!

HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTATIONS

Another round of successful high school presentations at Leo Hayes High School on March 1st, 2024! The team presented to 10 classes, and shared information on menstrual stigma, period poverty, managing symptoms, and sustainable menstruation. Thanks to all the students for your attention and questions, and congrats to the winners of our trivia quiz 🥳

ZUMBA AT THE CURRIE CENTRE!

We are so grateful to the Currie Centre team for supporting us in hosting another fantastic Zumba event! We had a blast and were able to collect some donations for our community partners. We're looking forward to the next one, and a huge thank you to Rachel for leading another exciting, energizing class!

GIRLS STEM UP CONFERENCE 2024!

The Menstrual Health Society was thrilled to attend the Girls STEM Up (@girlsstemup) conference once again this year! On February 24th, 2024, the Girls STEM Up team held their sixth conference with the goal of inspiring and empowering women, girls, and other under-represented groups in STEM. The Menstrual Health Society participated in their networking event, meeting delegates, sharing what our society works towards, and doing a sustainable product giveaway. We can't wait for next year's conference!

WELLNESS EVENT!

The Menstrual Health Society was so happy to hold our first fall wellness event on November 29, 2023! Students stopped by and were able to make their own self-care kits, filled with period and hygiene products, school supplies, and some snacks and goodies. Thank you to our sponsors and partners for this event, Cove Kombucha, Tea of Life Kombucha, Slipp, and Blume!

MCAF WELLNESS FAIR

The Multicultural Association of Fredericton's Wellness Fair (October 12, 2023) gave us a great opportunity to reach out to our community, and bring positive awareness to menstrual health. We were able to hand out lots of menstrual products, and brought menstrual cups and other reusable products and were able to share how to use them. Our booth was very well-received and people were so excited to hear about our group and it's goals! We had a great time!

ZUMBA AT THE CURRIE CENTRE

The UNB Menstrual Health Society would like to thank Beth, Erin, Rachel, and the rest of the team at Reds Recreation for working with us to make this Zumba Product Drive possible! We were able to bring awareness and donate to a great cause (and have loads of fun!)
Thank you to everyone that donated and participated as we collected an exciting amount of hygiene products which will be donated to our various community partners. We hope to see you at the next one!

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OUTREACH PRESENTATIONS

Between May 24th and June 5th, UNBMHS volunteers presented to 20 classes of grade 5 students from six local elementary schools. Our presentation answered these important questions:

  • What is a period? 

  • What is menstrual stigma?

  • How do non-menstruating people contribute to menstrual stigma? 

  • What is period poverty? 

  • How do we reduce period poverty? 

  • How do I use a pad and tampon? 

  • How do I use reusable pads, period underwear, and menstrual cups?

We​ want to thank the amazing students at Barker's Point, Liverpool, Priestman, Royal Road, Gibson-Neill Memorial and Park Street elementary schools for their respect, kindness, confidence, and amazing questions!

SPRING PICKINGS

The UNB MHS hosted a Spring Pickings event on April 5th in the Harriet Irving Library Event Space, where attendees were able to choose from a variety of free sustainable, and disposable products. These products were from brands such as Aisle, Always, Diva Cup, Tampax, Playtex, and Kotex. Snacks and drinks were also served!

YOGA EVENT

The UNB MHS hosted a Yoga event on April 4th at the Currie Center. The society collected personal hygiene products at the door for admission. These products will be donated to various community organizations.

SCHOOL OUTREACH PRESENTATION

On March 17th, 2023 the school outreach team was able to make a huge impact on 240 students from Gr.5 - Gr.8 at Hanwell Park Academy!

  • We educated them about menstruation, menstrual stigma, and period poverty!

  • We introduced students to sustainable menstrual product options!

  • We distributed 200 pads and 100 tampons!

Thank you to the HPA students for being so welcoming to us, go black bears!

SCHOOL OUTREACH PRESENTATION

On Thursday, February 16th, 2023, UNB Menstrual Health volunteers (Danielle Salomon, Caroline Stephan, and Kate Palmer) travelled to Devon Middle School, in Fredericton, NB. Here, we were able to present to all grade 8 students about 'Menstrual Stigma and Period Poverty'. This presentation fostered an atmosphere of comfort and acceptance making space for important questions to be asked. Our goal for these presentations is to help to de-stigmatize menstruation and period poverty. Go Wildcats!

SCHOOL OUTREACH PRESENTATION

On Friday, February 3rd, 2023, UNB Menstrual Health volunteers (Caroline Stephan, Julia MacPherson, and Savannah McBride) travelled to Nashwaaksis Middle School, located in Fredericton, NB. Here, we were able to present to all grade 6 students about 'Menstrual Stigma and Period Poverty'. This presentation fostered an atmosphere of comfort and acceptance, which garnered many important questions and interactions which help to de-stigmatize menstruation and period poverty. Thank you to all of the lovely students from NMS who attended and listened to us. Go dragons!

MULTICULTURAL ASSOCIATION OF FREDERICTON'S HEALTH AND WELLNESS FAIR

On October 13, 2022, volunteers from the UNB MHS attended the Multicultural Association of Fredericton's Health and Wellness Fair to provide free period products, demonstrations and have discussions about menstrual health.

ZUMBA AT THE CURRIE CENTRE

The UNB MHS hosted a Zumba class on Monday, Sept. 26, 2022 at the Currie Center in partnership with Reds Recreation and Rachel Mills Zumba! The society collected menstrual health and hygiene product donations from participants. These donations will be distributed to community partners to decrease period poverty in the Fredericton community. Thanks to all who came to support this initiative! There will be more events like this coming soon.

TRIVIA NIGHT AT THE CELLAR PUB

On November 22, 2022, the MHS put on a trivia night (with prizes!) to collect donations of menstrual health and hygiene items from participants. These donations will be distributed to community partners to decrease period poverty in the Fredericton community. Thank you to all participants!

SCHOOL OUTREACH PRESENTATIONS

On Nov. 4th, 2022 the school outreach team was able to provide (French) presentations about period poverty (La pauvreté menstruelle) to high school students (gr. 9) at École Sainte-Anne in Fredericton.
This is done in effort to reduce the stigma around menstruation in our community, and to provide students with the information and resources we wished to have when we were in their shoes! Presenters: Juliette Tristan-Arket, Indya Michaud, and Danie Beaulieu.
